Child survives morning fire

Six Wayne County fire departments, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal mobile home fire in Dudley this morning. A woman died and a 12-year-old boy is being treated for minor injuries.
A Dudley woman is dead and a 12-year-old boy is being treated for injuries after a fire broke out in a mobile home in Dudley early this morning.
The fire took place at a mobile home park on Bass Lake Drive off Kelly Springs Road.
The State Bureau of Investigation and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene to investigate the origin of the blaze.
"No foul play is suspected," Maj. Tom Effler said.
The child was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Dudley, Indian Springs, Mar Mac, Mount Olive, Grantham and Arrington volunteer fire departments responded along with Wayne County EMS, Wayne County Office of Emergency Services and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
OES interim director Mel Powers did not return phone calls seeking comment.
Effler said the victims' names might be released later today after the family has been notified.
