Traffic violation ends in heroin charges

A Goldsboro man is facing heroin trafficking charges after a traffic stop by members of the local drug task force Monday.
Ricardo Devon Whitfield, 27, of 213 Hillcrest Drive, is charged with trafficking heroin by possession, trafficking heroin by transportation and possession of marijuana, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office press release.
Members of the Goldsboro/Wayne County Interagency Drug Task Force, who were conducting an investigation in the Dudley area, witnessed Whitfield's rental car make a moving violation, the press release said.
Investigators pulled Whitfield over on Casey Mill Road and found 160 bags of heroin, a loaded .40 caliber handgun, cash and marijuana in the car, according to the report.
Whitfield is in the Wayne County Jail under a $30,000 secured bond pending a first appearance July 16.
