Police, city man face off at home

Goldsboro police are releasing few details after officers engaged in a standoff with an armed man who barricaded himself inside his home on North Jefferson Street and threatened to harm himself Saturday.
The subject's name has not been released.
Police arrived to find family members outside the residence.
Officers were instructed over the radio to pull back and to establish a perimeter.
Police cruisers blocked traffic between the intersections of North Jefferson Street and Maple and Edgerton streets.
Onlookers were ordered to move back as police hunkered down momentarily.
Senior members of the Goldsboro Police Department arrived on the scene and took over command.
Officers regrouped and, with guns drawn, advanced slowly and surrounded the house.
The officers then began communicating with the subject inside.
Officers spoke with the man through the door for about 20 minutes.
Goldsboro police Chief Jeff Stewart arrived on scene and, a short time later, the standoff came to a peaceful conclusion.
"Everything ended well," Stewart said. "No one was injured."
There has been no word yet on whether criminal charges would be filed.
The resident was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
