Driver hurt in crash

This Mustang lies crumpled in a yard on U.S. 70 just east of Goldsboro this morning following a single-car accident that left the driver injured. The state Highway Patrol did not release the driver's name, but he was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A 19-year-old driver was injured this morning when the car he was driving left U.S. 70 and flipped three times.
N.C. Highway Patrol officers said they could not identify the victim, nor provide his condition, since his family had not yet been notified of the crash.
Trooper J.S. Smith said the driver's car left the road and ran through a chain-link fence before flipping end over end through three yards, ejecting the driver, who landed 30 yards from where the car came to rest near the Elroy Fire Department.
The driver was unresponsive when emergency medical services arrived on scene.
Smith said witnesses said the driver was seen passing vehicles at a high rate of speed heading west on U.S. 70 before the accident.
"There was only one person in the car, not wearing his seat belt," the trooper said.
Franco Wagstaff, who witnessed the crash, said that EMS workers worked to revive the driver before moving him to the ambulance for transport.
The driver was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Wagstaff was visiting his fiancee when he said he heard what sounded like a truck dragging something.
"I had just parked when I heard it," Wagstaff said. "I turned around and the car was in the air. It was flying through the air then it came down. I ran up there to look in it and there was no one there. I started looking back the way it came. Once another guy came up there, I guess he knew what he was doing because he looked down past it."
A trail of debris and scarred ground was left in the Mustang's wake as it flipped and twisted across the three yards.
Left lying behind by the vehicle was paperwork showing the car had been bought on Friday.
"He bought that car three days ago," Wagstaff said. "And then this."
