Teenager arrested in Herman Park

A Goldsboro man who attempted to break up a fight in Herman Park Saturday afternoon had a gun pulled on him for doing so.
According to a Goldsboro police report, Corey Marvin Barnett, 42, of Forest Drive, was walking through the park at 600 N. Herman St. just before 2 p.m. when he witnessed two young women fighting.
Barnett stepped in to break up the fight and a young black man in the crowd pulled a gun and threatened him.
The gun, later determined to be a BB gun, appeared real to Barnett, who told investigators the young man chased him around the park.
As police approached the scene, the young man "left the gun by a tree," according to the report. A witness alerted police to where the gun was stashed and it was recovered.
Police identified the young man as Ty'quan Sutton, 16, 1311 E. Maple St.
Sutton was taken into custody at the scene and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, assault by pointing a gun and communicating threats.
As he was being taken out of one patrol car by officers, searched and placed into another patrol car, Sutton was overheard to say that he was simply defending his sister from a group of people trying to fight her.
Police cleared the park of about 20 teenagers, sending them all away before removing Sutton to the Wayne County Magistrate's Office where he was served with warrants.
