Charges of indecent liberties with a student have been filed against an Eastern Wayne High School coach, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday.
Glen Isaac Darden, 59, of 2524 HB Lewis Road, Clinton, an instructional assistant and head coach of the boys varsity basketball team at Eastern Wayne High School, is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond.
Wayne County Public Schools Communications Director Ken Derksen confirmed via email that Darden was placed on paid administrative leave Dec. 13, 2013. As a result of his arrest, Darden's administrative leave status has been changed to unpaid,
Darden was hired by Wayne County Public Schools in March 2003. He has coached throughout his tenure at Eastern Wayne High School and is in his second year as head coach.
According to a press release issued by the Sheriff's Office, the investigation began Dec. 12 after an allegation of wrong doing was made against Darden.
A student approached the school resource officer at Eastern Wayne High School and reported an incident that had taken place on school grounds the night before, according to the release.
The investigation was then turned over to Detective Sgt. Tammy Mozingo.
The victim will not be identified due to her age.
