Pikeville workers injured in crash

Emergency workers tend to two Pikeville town employees who were injured while working alongside U.S. 117 North on Wednesday morning. Both were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital but are back at home today recuperating.
PIKEVILLE -- Pikeville town employees Patrick Hall, 44, and Larry Daughtry, 53, were injured on the job when a passenger car crashed into the back of one of their parked utility trucks on U.S. 117 North near East School Street shortly before noon Wednesday.
The two men were working along the roadside between two town trucks when the vehicle struck. Cones had been set up around the vehicles.
The impact pushed the rear vehicle forward, catching the men between the two trucks, Pikeville Police Chief Pascal Tucker said.
"Hall suffered a fractured (left) collarbone or arm, and Daughtry had some back and rib injuries but no broken bones," Tucker said.
Both men were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment and are home today recuperating, Tucker said this morning.
The driver of the passenger car, Shelena Calderon-Gullien, 42, of Goldsboro, also was taken to the hospital to be checked out, Tucker said.
Ms. Calderon-Guillen was cited for failure to decrease speed to avoid a collision, he said.
