Flood warning issued for Neuse through weekend

The Neuse River is seen early today at the Broadhurst Bridge on N.C. 111 South. The river is rising following recent heavy rains and is expected to reach flood stage later today. It is expected to crest at 19.6 feet on Saturday before receding.
The Neuse River is reaching its flood stage and is expected to crest at 19.6 feet Friday morning.
A flood warning was issued for Goldsboro on Tuesday and is expected to last from 5 p.m. today until late Saturday night.
The river is considered to be in flood stage when its level reaches 18 feet. At 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, the river level was at 14.7 feet and rising rapidly.
Officials said the predictions are on target.
"Right now, the flood warning is following the forecast curve pretty good," said Kathleen Carroll, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Raleigh.
"Mill Creek Road was underwater this morning and we went out there and closed it down," said Luther Thompson, county maintenance supervisor for the state Department of Transportation.
Thompson said Ferry Bridge Road will be closing as well due to flooding, and that Arrington Bridge Road is in danger of flooding by late Thursday or during the day Friday.
According to the National Weather Service's hydrograph of the Neuse River, the river had reached 16.47 feet as of 8:15 a.m. today.
The river level is not expected to fall below flood stage until Saturday afternoon.
