This year's spring concert at Wayne Community College will be a flashback to a bygone era, as music and fashions from 1963 will be incorporated to set the stage for the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of the N.C. Community College system.

The WCC chorus, under the direction of Querida Hills and accompanied by Tom Casey, will perform many songs made popular on the radio and records.

Staff members Brent Hood and Renita Allen Dawson will also share their vocal talents, and the Storm Surfers, a band composed of current and former WCC employees, will perform beach melodies.

More than two dozen students, faculty and staff will also model clothes of the time.

Among the selections featured in the concert will be "Mack the Knife," "Surfin' USA," "Ring of Fire" and "Laughing on the Outside." "Elvis Presley" will also be coaxed out of hiding to reprise a few of his hits, too, officials said.

The concert will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
