Shots fired; four hit, two killed

A Wayne County Sheriff's Department investigator takes photographs at the scene of a double murder late Sunday night off Old Mount Olive Highway. Two people were shot to death and two more wounded. Authorities are searching for Jujuan Maquis Cox in connection with the shootings.

A young woman collapses when her emotions get the best of her.
She wails and sobs uncontrollably.
"No. No," she screams again and again. "Why? God, why?"
She knows two people are dead inside the house located a few yards inside the crime scene tape located just in front of her -- that she isn't allowed to penetrate the perimeter being secured by members of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
She feels helpless.
"Please. No," she screams before resting her head in the arms of another grieving bystander. "No. No. No. No."
A manhunt for Dudley resident Jujuan Maquis Cox -- the person who allegedly shot two people to death and wounded two more at just before 10 p.m. Sunday at 1172B Old Mount Olive Hwy. -- is currently under way.

Lawmen, much like those who gathered for hours at the scene, want justice for Anthony Jamal Kornegay and Nakiea Felicia Stokes.

The 911 call came in at 9:45.
Shots had been -- and were still being -- fired.
Moments later, deputies discovered an SUV less than a mile from the crime scene.
It was peppered with bullet holes and the man driving it, Leonard Darden, had been shot in the arm.
Darden, according to a report obtained from the Sheriff's Department early this morning, was treated at, and then released from, Wayne Memorial Hospital.
But officials at the hospital claim they have no record of Tre Stokes, the other victim deputies said was sent there.
He, like Kornegay and Ms. Stokes, was discovered at that home off Old Mount Olive Highway.
The dwelling, itself, looked like the scene of a firefight.
There were bullet holes in its windows and in the cars parked behind it.
Deputies, investigators and Sheriff Carey Winders were still working the scene at 4 a.m. -- long after a search warrant was executed at Cox's 106 Evelyn Circle home.
No additional information about the incident has been released by those working the case.
But as is standard with many ongoing investigations, more details are being sought.
None of that, though, seemed to matter to the man who, at just after midnight, wiped tears from his eyes as he charged the perimeter.
"Where's my brother at? Where's my brother at?" he yelled, as two sobbing women held him back. "Where's my brother at? Tell him to come out the house. Tell him to come out the house. I ain't leavin' till you let me see my brother, man."
Another woman screamed and fell to the ground.
"Please. Please," she said. "That's his brother. Let him see his brother. Just please let him see his brother."
