She knows it won't be long before her husband, Aaron, taxis by -- that his F-15E has already touched down on the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base flight line.
So when she hears the sound of fighter jets approaching, she tells her 1-year-old daughter, Meredith, and 3-year-old son, Will, to look toward the Strike Eagles coming into view.
One of them was, after all, being commanded by their daddy.
He had made it back home -- just in time for the holidays.
Four crews from the 336th Fighter Squadron returned to Goldsboro Wednesday afternoon, several hours after hundreds of the men and women who ensured their F-15Es were fit to fly were greeted by a celebration akin to the one waiting along the flight line for the Rocketeers.
And while base officials declined to get into specifics about just what the airmen's deployment involved, those with knowledge of the mission said those who have returned -- and those who will return -- have lived up to the standard set by 4th Fighter Wing airmen during previous tours across the world.
Four more Strike Eagles are expected to streak toward Seymour Johnson for the first time in months this afternoon.
