Shayne Paul watches as a hopper full of freshly picked cotton is dumped in a packer in a field farmed by Michael Lancaster near Airport Road in northeast Wayne County on Tuesday. Agriculture officials say Wayne has about 11,000 acres of cotton this year and that growers are pulling in a good yield. Sorghum is also being harvested and is doing well, said Extension Agent John Sanderson.
