News-Argus welcomes circulation director

Chris Bell has been named the circulation manager of The Goldsboro News-Argus.
Bell, 45, comes to the newspaper from Kansas, where he was circulation director for the Journal-World in Lawrence.
A native of Evansville, Ind., Bell also worked as circulation director for the Evansville Courier & Press for 10 years. He also served in the same capacity at the Independent Mail in Anderson, S.C., for about eight years.
A graduate of the University of Southern Indiana, he and his wife, Erin, have three children. Kristen is a student at Washburn University, where she is studying on a softball scholarship. Trisha is 15; and Brandon will turn 17 on Monday.
He said his primary goal is providing excellent service -- and that he wants to make sure The News-Argus' delivery is meeting customers' expectations. He also said he wants to introduce non-subscribers to what the newspaper has to offer.
Both those goals require getting out into the community and meeting customers, vendors and readers, he said.
"I'm excited to be in Goldsboro," he said. "It's good to be back in the Southeast. I love it here."
He spent his first week getting to know the newspaper and its delivery schedule -- and took time out to volunteer at the United Way's annual Taste of Wayne event.
"I love to come to work every day," he said, describing how his job is mostly about people.
Publisher Hal Tanner III said he believes Bell will be a great addition to the newspaper's team.
"We are very excited to have a circulation director of Chris's caliber and experience on our team," Tanner said. "He brings both large and small market experience to our company and will enable us to expand our marketing capabilities."
Bell said he enjoys the give-and-take atmosphere of a daily newspaper. Starting out early in the newspaper business has given him the experience necessary to oversee a fleet of carriers and to ensure customers stay satisfied, he added.
"I've done everything from running a truck to circulation manager," he said. "I've done a little bit of everything over the years. I'm looking forward to using some of that experience to help create an even better newspaper for Wayne County."
