Kennedy Fitzgerald McLaurin Jr.

Goldsboro police announced today that the abduction of Kennedy Fitzgerald McLaurin Jr. "was not a random act" and that he is believed to have connections to the three or four black men who took him from the 700 block of Bain Street in the Woodcrest Housing Community on Sept. 9.

McLaurin was reported missing on Sept. 10 by his mother, Kimberly Best, when he didn't come home. An Amber Alert was issued on Sept. 12.

No arrests have been made, but law enforcement authorities are searching in the Seven Springs area where physical evidence connected to the 16-year-old's disappearance has been found -- evidence that a city spokeswoman has said was found through tips to the police hotline.

A press conference is planned for 5 p.m.
