Fifth-grader Josean Artis, 11, looks over paperwork as his mother, Tara Wells, center, and teacher Aaryn Fazarkerly chat during Dillard Middle School's open house Tuesday evening. Students and parents flooded the halls to meet teachers and prepare for the first day of school Thursday. Goldsboro High School also held an open house Tuesday. The rest of the week will see open houses for other county schools, with middle schools on Wednesday night and high schools on Thursday night.
