Goldsboro native to lead Alabama State University

Goldsboro native Dr. Joseph Silver Sr. has been named the 13th president of Alabama State University.
The provost and vice president for academic affairs at Clark Atlanta University since January 2010, he will assume his new duties Sept. 17.
Silver, who grew up in the Webbtown community of Goldsboro, graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1971. His parents, Joel Silver Sr. and Augusta Silver, still reside in Goldsboro.
He earned his bachelor's degree in political science summa cum laude from St. Augustine's College and master's and doctorate degrees in political science from Atlanta University, now Clark Atlanta. He completed additional educational studies and has been widely published.
