Jake May catches the ceremonial first pitch before an Eastern Wayne High School baseball game Thursday. The team was to hold its "Senior Night" a week earlier, but when Jake got delayed at Duke Hospital, the team decided it wouldn't be right to conduct the ceremony without him. Jake's father, Roger, choked up when he talked about what it meant to see his son, who, less than a year after a cancer diagnosis, is in remission, back on the field. "The whole night was emotional, if only for a few pitches. We've been blessed throughout this whole journey, and seeing him get to do that was just the icing on top."
