4th Fighter Wing Operations Group Commander Col. Brian Kirkwood pins the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal on Capt. Ryan Bodenheimer during Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's annual Volunteer Appreciation Ice Cream Social. Bodenheimer along with Capt. Joshua Carroll, Capt. Jonathan Hudgins and Capt. Joseph Stenger received the medal for their volunteer service while conducting combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The men founded the non-profit organization Flying Scarfs, which supports impoverished Afghan women and children.
