Firefighters battle house fire in Eureka

Firefighters from Eureka, Faro and Fremont volunteer fire departments respond to a house fire this morning at 1136 Stan-Ray Road just west of Eureka.
FREMONT -- A Wayne County man was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital this morning for injuries he received in a morning house fire near Eureka.
Thomas Pate was believed to have gotten out of the burning home at 1136 Stan-Ray Road west of Eureka, before he was picked up by emergency services workers at a nearby home. Pate was taken to the hospital for unknown injuries. A report on his condition was unavailable at press time.
Three volunteer fire departments responded to the house fire about 7:45 a.m.
Eureka Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Brock said much remains undetermined regarding the cause of the fire, including where it originated and who was at home when the fire started.
By 8:15, heavy white smoke was pouring from the double-wide trailer home and the extreme heat had started peeling the vinyl siding from the structure. Shutters around the windows and doors were charred.
Brock said it appears Pate and an unidentified woman were in the process of moving out of the home. He said he could not immediately say for sure if anyone else was residing in the home.
Brock said his department was on the scene within four minutes of the receiving the call.
"It was a fully-involved fire when we arrived," Brock said.
Faro and Fremont volunteer fire departments also responded. Brock said 35 firefighters worked together to extinguish the blaze. Ten fire trucks were on the scene.
The county's EMS office was assisting the firefighters in trying to determine the cause of the fire. An estimate of damages was not yet available.
