Making valentines

Mary Emma Talton, a second-grader at St. Mary School, makes a Valentine's Day card Monday. Class members all made cards to give to their special friends. After the craftwork was over, teacher Brook Chatham read to the class about St. Valentine and the history behind the holiday. Several early Christian martyrs were named St. Valentine, but the holiday only became associated with romance in the Middle Ages, when the poet Geoffrey Chaucer wrote about it.
