Christine Denton competing in N.C. Distinguished Young Woman

LaGRANGE -- Christine "Cissi" Denton, who was named Distinguished Young Woman of Wayne County in October, is in Greensboro preparing for the Distinguished Young Women of North Carolina Scholarship Program.
Miss Denton is there with 18 other high school senior girls from across the state rehearsing for the program and participating in community outreach to promote the program's "Be Your Best Self" platform.
She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Kent Denton of Goldsboro and attends Arendell Parrott Academy.
She is a member of LaGrange Christian Church and is involved with her school's orchestra, cheerleading and dance programs. She hopes to attend UNC-Chapel Hill or East Carolina University and has an interest in dermatology.
At the local program, Miss Denton was awarded $4,000 in cash scholarship and received preliminary awards in the categories of fitness, talent, interview, and scholastic achievement.
Miss Denton's talent is the violin and will be playing "Praeludium and Allegro" by Fritz Kreisler.
The Distinguished Young Women of North Carolina Program will be held today and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the War Memorial Auditorium in Greensboro. Tickets will still be available at the door.
Miss Denton is being hosted by Gary and Karen Baldwin of Greensboro.
The winner of Distinguished Young Women of North Carolina will go on to compete for the national title June 28-30 in Mobile, Ala., where more than $130,000 in cash scholarships will be awarded.
The program was founded in 1958 as is the largest and oldest scholarship program for high school girls. It has provided more than $93 million in cash scholarships at the local, state, and national levels.
