Sariyah Monae Leach, left, was Wayne County's first baby born in 2012. Her mother, Jasmine Manley of Mount Olive, delivered her at Wayne Memorial Hospital at 8:53 a.m. Sunday. Sariyah weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and was 21 inches long. Her 23-year-old mom said she had been "doing a lot of walking" on Saturday. So when the pains started coming around 4 a.m. Sunday -- "It was like a bad toothache" -- she made her way to Wayne Memorial Hospital. "I couldn't even stand being in the car," she said. "It seemed like it took forever." But after several hours of labor, the little one was born to a happy -- and relieved -- mom. She will join her equally excited big sister, Mackinzie Manley, who is 3. Hospital officials said there were four babies born on New Year's Day -- one of the busier first days in a couple of years.
