Before the Miss America Pageant even hits the airwaves next month, the public can cast its votes on their favorite contestant, which just might secure her place in the Top 15.
Miss North Carolina, Hailey Best, is hoping her hometown will participate in the online round of competition for "America's Choice."
In August, each of the 53 contestants filmed a 90-second video telling about themselves and why they should be named Miss America.
Miss Best, 21, who hails from Wayne County, was named Miss Durham County before capturing the state crown in June. Her talent is in operatic vocal, a sample of which is briefly represented on the website.
Online voting has begun, with the winner of the "America's Choice" contest to be announced during the pageant televised live from Las Vegas Jan. 14, guaranteeing her an automatic place in the Top 15.
People can cast one vote per day per electronic device from now through Jan. 12, when voting officially ends at 11:59 p.m.
Videos can be viewed through www.missamerica.org/videocontest or www.facebook.com/MissAmericaOrganization.
To vote, click on the video and follow the prompts.
