Bojangles' on Spence to be rebuilt

Workers tear down Bojangles' on Spence Avenue Tuesday. The restaurant, which is closed for remodeling, will likely be rebuilt and re-opened by mid-December.
Those with hankerings for seasoned fries and "legendary" iced tea will have to head to the edges of the city limits to get their fix now that the Bojangles' location on Spence Avenue has been demolished.
Much of the building was brought down Tuesday as the property owner has cleared his land, which formerly included China Garden, to put in a more modern Bojangles' building and to incorporate a better parking lot layout to assist with traffic.
Other locations within Goldsboro, on West Grantham Street, Highway 111 South and Highway 117 South, will remain open during the demolition and construction of the Spence Avenue location.
Chief Building Inspector Ed Cianfarra said the new Bojangles' will be a nice one, perhaps even nicer than the recently constructed location on West Grantham Street near the Highway Patrol Station.
Although the property owner initially was considering moving the Bojangles' to the northern end of his property where China Garden was, Cianfarra said the plans are to rebuild at the same location.
Demolition of the structure is expected to finish up this week and Bo Builders of Kinston will begin construction on the new restaurant sometime next week.
Tillman Carter, the general contractor for Bo Builders, said he expects the restaurant to reopen sometime before Christmas if all goes according to schedule, with an estimated completion date of Dec. 15.
In other city restaurant news, Cianfarra said the new Olive Garden restaurant is still being held up by Sears Auto Center, which must relocate before the demolition of the store and construction of the restaurant can begin.
"We have already issued the building permit to the Olive Garden, we're just waiting on the relocation of Sears," he said.
