Kathy Barrow, a member of the Purtty Team, ties a ribbon to honor Frances and Carl Thornton. Mrs. Thornton is a cancer survivor. Her son, Carl, succumbed to his battle with cancer. The Purtty Team Relays for them. The team name comes from Carl's nickname -- "Purtty." Thousands of Wayne County residents joined Mrs. Barrow Friday in honoring survivors, remembering those who have lost their cancer battles and raising money for research to fight the disease.
