Attempted murder trial set to begin

Jury selection was expected to begin today in Wayne County Superior Court in the attempted murder trial of Mack Recardo Lewis, 27, of Rocky Mount.
Lewis is charged in connection with a stabbing that severely injured a former girlfriend, Gloria Peacock, Nov. 9, 2009.
He is accused of kicking in the front door of Ms. Peacock's home on Park Road before the alleged stabbing. Deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said Ms. Peacock suffered very serious injuries.
Children, 1 to 8 years old at the time, are believed to have witnessed the incident.
According to authorities, Lewis and Ms. Peacock have at least one child together.
Lewis is also a registered sex offender, according to the N.C. Department of Justice's sex offender registry, for a conviction on a count of indecent liberties with a minor in 2007.
Stemming from the incident that occurred on Nov. 9, 2009, Lewis was charged with common law robbery, failure to register as a sex offender, first-degree burglar, habitual felon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury and attempted murder.
Lewis' criminal record since 2001 includes the following charges: larceny of a motor vehicle, received stolen goods, eight counts of breaking and entering, eight counts of larceny after breaking and entering, felony larceny, two counts each of felonious forging and uttering, two counts of possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine and felonious indecent liberties with child.
