It's a sweep ... again for Wayne County Fair

The Wayne County Regional Fair again swept the awards ceremony at the North Carolina-South Carolina Convention of Agricultural Fairs in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Wayne took home the Image Award for the 13th time -- the most of any county fair in state history -- and also won the Youth Award for the quality and quantity of youth exhibits, educational booths, contests and other activities.
It was the 21st time the fair has won the Youth Award -- also the most of any county in the state.
The Wayne Fair also captured the Agricultural Award for the quality and quantity of farm exhibits, displays and general showcasing of the region's agricultural history.
The fair received the Media Award for having the most creative, original and effective advertising and public relations campaign, and the "Got to be NC Agriculture" Award for having the best educational display of state farm products and the use of the "Harvest of Discovery" theme.
It was the 10th time the fair has won the Agriculture Award and the seventh time in eight years that the fair has taken home the "Got to be NC Agriculture" Award.
The fair, sponsored by the Wayne County Livestock Association, is generally recognized as the best local fair in the state. Ingram said the credit is due to hard work and dedication of scores of volunteers, employees and exhibitors who work year-round to make the fair a success.
"We have tried to make it a true agricultural fair," Ingram said. "And we have always put our emphasis on making it family-oriented."
Ingram said continuing to find new exhibits, contests and acts keeps the fair new and exciting. He said the 2011 fair, set for Sept. 29 through Oct. 8, will again feature new exhibits and other improvements. Powers Great American Midways will again provide the carnival rides, he said.
Last year, a major improvement was the paving of several large areas surrounding the exhibit buildings, making foot traffic much easier for fairgoers.
