Kimberly Berrier, senior donor recruitment representative for the Carolinas Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, shares the Chapter Achievement Award with Bill Hewitt, a local blood services volunteer.
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross was recently recognized by the Carolinas Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross for the chapter's percentage of growth in blood collections.
Honored at the region's annual Celebration of Excellence program in Durham, the chapter received a Chapter Achievement Award for its 5.6 percent growth in blood collections over the past year. Over that period, the chapter conducted 169 blood drives that collected 6,062 units of blood.
"The mission of the American Red Cross is to provide a safe and adequate blood supply. That can not happen without dedicated sponsors willing to organize blood drives and hundreds of volunteer blood donors giving the most perfect gift by donating blood" said Kimberly Berrier, senior donor recruitment representative for the Carolinas Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross.
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross, located at 600 N. George St. in Goldsboro, serves the residents of Wayne, Wilson and Greene Counties and the men and women of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Executive director of the chapter is Chuck Waller and Ms. Berrier coordinates blood drives.
The Carolinas Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross provides lifesaving blood to 103 hospitals and must have 1,600 people give blood and platelets each weekday to meet patient needs.
