One dead, five injured in morning crash

Thoroughfare firefighters, along with EMS personnel, work on the scene of a single vehicle accident in front of the Thoroughfare Fire Department fire station early this morning.
A single car accident this morning has left one person dead and sent five to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The accident took place on Herring Road near Thoroughfare Volunteer Fire Station. The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m., Thoroughfare Fire Chief Delbert Edwards said.
Four men and two women were in the Chevrolet Suburban, which overturned near the entrance to the fire station. One man and one woman were ejected from the vehicle. The man was found dead when the state Highway Patrol arrived on the scene, First Sgt. Jerry Burton said.
"It appears that speed was a factor in the accident," Burton said.
The vehicle was traveling north on Herring Road near the intersection of U.S. 13. The vehicle was driven by a female from Mount Olive. The other occupants were all from Dudley.
No names have been released, but all occupants of the SUV were Hispanic.
Three of the six people are believed to not have been wearing seat belts, Burton said.
Officials believe they were on their way to work, but didn't say where that might have been. There is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, Burton said.
