The Goldsboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division arrested a 17-year-old Monday in connection with a shooting that took place last week.

Larry Maurice Saunders, 17, of Day Circle, was arrested while at a residence on Miller Avenue and charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Police said he was taken into custody without incident and was placed in Wayne County Jail with a $1 million bond. The charge stems from an investigation into a shooting that occurred last Thursday.

Javon Young, 28, of South Slocumb Street was taken by medical helicopter to Pitt Memorial Hospital for a gunshot wound in his lower back. Goldsboro police responded to a fight-in-progress call at The Grand at Day Point apartment complex around 8:45 that night. Seconds later, the call was updated to a shooting. When police arrived, they found Young lying behind the 1900 building with the gunshot wound. He was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Pitt.

Police Sgt. Chad Calloway said Saunders is the only suspect in the shooting. He added that Young is still alive.

"He's still fighting pretty hard, but he is alive," he said.

If Young dies, Saunders will then be charged with murder, Calloway said.
