Watts honored by state educators

Norwayne Middle School assistant principal Dianne Watts has been named the 2010 North Carolina Association of Educators Assistant Principal of the Year.
The selection was based on a proven dedication to the education profession and to the teaching and learning of all students, as well as to the association.
Mrs. Watts began her career in education in 1977 as an elementary teacher at South Hoke Elementary School in Raeford, North Carolina. In 1983 she left North Carolina to teach grades 6-8 in Bridgeport, Conn.
Since returning to North Carolina in 1997, she has has held various administrative positions in Wayne County Public Schools.
She earned a B.A. in elementary education from North Carolina Central University in 1977 and a master's in administration and supervision from Fayetteville State University in 1983. In 1989, she received a certificate in advanced studies in administration and supervision at Fairfield University, in Fairfield, Conn.
Mrs. Watts was named Administrator of the Year by the WCPS Educational Office Professionals Associ-ation in 2007. In 2008, she was named WCPS Assistant Principal of the Year.
"We congratulate Mrs. Watts for the achievement of being named the 2010 NCAE Assistant Principal of the Year," said Dr. Steven Taylor, schools superintendent. "Mrs. Watts is an outstanding administrator. She will make a fine representative of NCAE and Wayne County Public Schools and serve as an example of educational excellence for educators across the state."
The award ceremonies will be held during the upcoming 2010 NCAE awards banquet in Winston-Salem on Thursday.
