Ceiling injures city firefighter

Rescue workers and firemen tend to a Goldsboro fireman injured early today when a portion of the ceiling of the mobile home in the background gave way and fell on him. Officials did not release the firefighter's name nor details of his condition. He was being treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A mobile home roof collapsed on a Goldsboro firefighter and injured him early this morning after the department responded to a fire on Sheha Trail, fire officials said.
Fire Chief Gary Whaley said he was waiting on word of the firefighter's condition just after 9 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The injured man's name was not being released at this point, Whaley said. Another fire official said that the injured firefighter is a veteran member of the department.
Assistant Fire Chief James Farfour said the call came out at around 7 a.m. this morning to 104 Sheha Trail, in the Central Heights community.
Farfour said the house was a 2,000-plus square foot modular home underpinned with brick.
The house is worth about $135,000, and damages to it after the fire have been estimated at about $60,000, the assistant chief said. The value of the home's contents were not yet determined as of this morning.
When the first engine arrived, flames were visible, Farfour said.
"The first engine arrived, and they had heavy fire showing out of the front and side of the structure," the assistant chief said.
Firefighters decided the home looked safe enough to fight from the inside, Farfour said.
"They initiated an interior attack, and then the house did have a partial roof collapse, and the one firefighter was injured," the assistant chief said.
The roof collapse happened around 7:35 a.m., Farfour said.
