Paugh named Alzheimer's Inc. head

Alzheimer's North Carolina Inc., formerly the Eastern North Carolina chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, has changed its affiliation and hired a Goldsboro woman to help expand programs to better serve families of this area.
Anne Paugh has been named outreach and community development director for the eastern region. A volunteer with the organization since 2002, she has served on the board of directors and was instrumental in starting a Daytime Caregiver Support Group, the annual family caregiver workshop and regional Alzheimer's conferences.
She coordinated the first five Memory Walk events in Goldsboro.
Her new responsibilities will include expanding programs and services throughout the eastern region, as well as The Alzheimer's Walk North Carolina.
The organization changed its affiliation to fully focus on meeting the needs of the state's families. The board of directors voted to become an independent entity, separate from the national organization, headquartered in Chicago.
Alice Watkins, executive director, called the change necessary to better fund key areas in the state and allow for more emphasis on local programs and services.
"For 28 years and throughout 51 counties, we've provided support, educational outreach, programs and services to individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias," she said. "We've always been there for families and professional care providers. Our commitment to those in need remains our driving force, here for individuals suffering from dementia and their caregivers, today and tomorrow."
