Suspect arrested in rape case

A Mount Olive man has turned himself in in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old at a Spence Avenue apartment complex, Goldsboro police said.
Shane Martin Berens, 24, of O'Berry Road, is charged with one count of second-degree rape.
Berens was jailed under a $50,000 secured bond around 2 p.m. Tuesday, investigators said.
A 20-year-old woman who lives with roommates at Spence Towns in the 700 block of Spence Avenue alleged the sexual assault occurred early on Monday morning.
The alleged assault victim reportedly knew Berens, and the two were described as "acquaintances" by police.
According to state law, second-degree rape if the person engages in vaginal intercourse with another person by force and against the will of the other person.
The crime is a Class C felony.
