Latoya Lucas

It took Latoya Lucas more than a year to put into writing the experience of being wounded in Iraq.

"I was on a supply run," she said. "We were on this road one morning and that's when everything happened -- the attack."

So when the local Military Order of the Purple Heart member tells her story at the Wayne County Public Library Friday at 1 p.m., she will do so with a sense of commitment to honor those other "wounded warriors" she wrote her book for.

"The Immeasurable Spirit," the Army veteran's tale of deploying to Iraq and coming home among other wounded, is now available and the author says she will be signing copies of it during her appearance.

But the story is not simply a reflection of the attack that left her receiving a Purple Heart from a hospital bed.

"It's not just a book about my military experience. It's about whatever life throws at you -- whether it be cancer, whatever that battlefield is," she said. "In the book, I talk about how we can rely on our faith -- how we can help others in the midst of our own problems."

Those who want more information about the author's appearance can contact the library.
